A lower Pomeroon River man who allegedly chopped his reputed wife to the head and severed several of her fingers during the process was Monday charged with attempted murder.

He was released on $500,000 bail, the Guyana Police Force in a statement said.

The man, 31-year-old Richard Mohamed of Friendship Lower Pomeroon River and Huntly Mahaicony East Coast Demerara was not required to plead to the indictable charge.

The charge stated that on March 25, 2021, at Friendship Lower Pomeroon River, he attempted to kill his reputed wife.

Mohamed was released on $500,000 bail and instructed to make his next court appearance on April, 19,2021 before Magistrate Esther Sam.

According to reports, on the day in question the two got into an argument and Mohamed attacked the woman with a cutlass and dealt her several chops to her head and body.

He then burnt the house down. The woman was rushed to the hospital where she remains a patient.

The matter was reported and following an investigation, Mohamed was arrested and charged with the offence
