A 21-year-old man who is the son of Guyana reggae sensation Mortimer Softley popularly called ‘Natural black’, was Tuesday charged with the murder of a Bachelor’s Adventure, East Coast Demerara youth who allegedly owed him money.

Tafari Softley appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charge which  stated that between December 13, 2020, and December 14, 2020, at at Bachelor’s Adventure Access Road, East Coast Demerara, he murdered 23-year-old Keith Andrew Willis called “Ghandi”, a mason, of Bachelor’s Adventure.

Softley was remanded to prison until April 22, 2021. According to reports, Willis left his home around 16:30 hrs on December 13, last, to attend a football competition aback of Bachelor’s Adventure, East Coast Demerara.

The match concluded at 20:30 hours, after which Willis went to visit his girlfriend at Paradise Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara, and subsequently left about 23:00 hrs to go home.

According to information, at around 05:30 hrs on December 14, 2020, a resident of the area who was heading to work observed Willis lying on the roadway and summoned the Police.  On arrival at the scene the body was examined by the police and what appeared to be a single stab wound was seen to the upper left side neck.

Willis was escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The matter was reported and following an investigation, Softley was arrested and charged for the offense.
