The 24-year-old man who Police said admitted to killing a 19-year-old businessman last Friday was on Wednesday slapped with two murder charges.  Kapildeo Jangadin, of Annandale, East Coast Demerara (ECD) appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Cove and John Magistrate’s Court.

The first charge stated that on October 15, 2021, at Strathspey, ECD, he murdered Ganesh Persaud, also known as “Chris” during the course or furtherance of a robbery.  It is further alleged that in January 2020, at Coldingen, ECD, he murdered Mukesh Mangra known as ‘Paul’.

Jangadin was not required to plead to the indictable charges after they were read to him.  He was remanded to prison until January 17, 2022.

Last Friday, Persaud was killed in a robbery at a shop he operates. His father Devin Persaud told BIG Smith News Watch that he was in another section of the shop when his son came to him and said he was just robbed and that the bandits pushed a knife “straight through his neck”.

This publication understands that the teenager asked his father to take him to the hospital. Persaud died while on his way to the Balwant Singh Hospital in Georgetown. He was robbed of a gold chain and cash.

A few hours after the robbery, Police ranks apprehended Jangadin who has reportedly confessed to the crime. Persaud’s gold chain, according to the Police, was found on Jangadin at the time of his arrest. Persaud’s life was snuffed out days shy of his 20th birthday which would have been observed on Monday.

In relation to Mangra, Police said the 24-year-old fisherman’s body was found in January 2020, with several stabs wounds at Coldingen Public Road, ECD
