CXC completes 93 % of CAPE reviews from Guyana

The Education Ministry has announced that the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) has completed 93 percent of the 526 subject reviews from candidates of Guyana who wrote the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) last year.

According to the ministry, the review process consisted of the requested reviews in addition to what CXC considered ‘border line’ cases.

A total of 311 subject entries were positively affected for CAPE after requests were made by 209 candidates and the the remaining 33 per cent of subject reviews are currently being processed.

 There were 145 grade changes, while 348 received no changes to their grades.

 The Education Ministry said that in May/June 2020, 853 candidates from 10 secondary schools and five private schools were CAPE. In Region Four, they were from The Bishops’ High, Queen’s College, St Joseph’s High, St Rose’s High, St Stanislaus College, Marian Academy, Adult Education Association, President’s College, and Chase’s Academy.

Region Ten: Mackenzie High School and Christianburg/Wismar Secondary,  Region Six: Berbice High, New Amsterdam Secondary and Guyana Private and Region Three: Saraswati Vidya Niketan.

In 2019, there were 880 candidate entries with 4223 subject entries. In 2020, there were 853 candidate entries with 4393 subject entries.

Candidates were offered units in 35 subject areas. Each Unit comprises three modules which are equivalent to 150 credit hours and is separately examined and certified. Candidates from Guyana were offered 66 units at this year’s examination.
