Frontline workers as well as the Caricom Secretariat would be the first to benefit from COVID-19 vaccines donated by the government and people of Barbabos. In a release from the government, President Irfaan Ali announced the arrival of the vaccines which he said would see some 1400 doses going exclusively to frontline workers. Another 100 doses will go to the CARICOM Secretariat.

“I assure Guyanese that this issue is the top priority on our agenda and our aim is to ensure that every Guyanese is vaccinated before the end of the year,” President Ali is quoted as saying in the release as he thanks Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley and the people of Barbados for sharing their first batch of vaccines. Barbados received 100 000 doses of the Covishield Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine earlier this week.

President Ali confirmed that Guyana will be receiving various tranches of vaccines in the coming weeks. Guyana is set to received donations of vaccines from China, India and Russia.
