A 27-year-old man was on Tuesday handed a 43 and a half years jail sentence for the February 02, 2017, murder of amateur footballer, Paul Daniels. Alvin Jones, called ‘Hotskull’, of Castello Housing Scheme, Georgetown, had pleaded not guilty to the capital offence when his trial commenced earlier this month before Justice Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

Following deliberations, a 12-member jury found him guilty of the crime of the crime. As a consequence, Justice Sewnarine-Beharry imposed the custodial sentence. State Counsel Nafeeza Baig presented the case for the Prosecution, while Attorney-at-Law Stanley Moore appeared for Jones.

Police Headquarters in a statement on the killing had said that Daniels was at his Independence Boulevard, Albouystown home watching television with his girlfriend when two bandits-one of whom was armed with a gun- stormed the premises. According to the Police, Daniels was relieved of a gold chain he was wearing and other valuables. Police said that Daniels chased after the bandits and was shot to the chest during the process.

The bandits escaped on a bicycle. Daniels was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
