The trio who were killed in the crash

Police Constable Simion Alder, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol when he crashed the motorcar he was driving into a parked lorry at Whim Public Road, Corentyne Berbice resulting in the death of three persons, will be arraigned before a Magistrate this week on three counts of causing death by dangerous driving.

The accident occurred since August 02, 2020. Dead are: Guyana Defence Force (GDF) rank Kwesi Lewis; Reyon Moriah, 25, of Circle Street, Corriverton, Berbice; and 20-year-old Jessica Gallaway of David Street Rose Hall Town, Berbice.

Following investigations, Police sent a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Shalimar Ali-Hack who advised that the charges be laid against Constable Alder. This publication understands that the police rank has already been charged with driving under the influence to which he pleaded not guilty and was granted $20,000 bail.

He was also charged with driving an uninsured motor vehicle; he pleaded guilty to this charge and was fined $20,000. According to reports, Constable Alder was driving Toyota Allion being registration number PWW 582 heading to Rose Hall Town to drop off Gallaway from an event when he crashed into the back of a motor lorry GJJ 5939.

Reports are that motorcars PWW 582 and PGG 9262 collided with motor lorry GJJ 5939 as the driver was about to park on the parapet. Eyewitnesses said that PGG 9262 crashed into the motor lorry. They said as they were rendering assistance, the motorcar being driven by Alder came crashing into the rear of the motor lorry.
