The station’s construction was done with support from the Inter- American Development Bank and has a price tag of just under $75 Million Guyana Dollars.

Provisions were adequately made for persons with disabilities, fire exits, smart rooms and other key amenities at the new Police Station.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Calvin Brutus in remarks said the environment will allow ranks to serve the public from a more comfortable environment.

Brutus said with the new concrete building, monies which were previously spent to rehabilitate wooden structures across the force can now be spent in other areas and the state in turn saves revenue in that manner.

Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken while speaking Monday afternoon in Albion told the gathering that the standards expected by way of these new infrastructural improvements for the force should not be understated.

The Commissioner related that modernizing the Guyana Police Force requires that operations of the police force meet internationally accepted standards.

Domestic Violence, Interviewing, Identification and child friendly rooms are also features of the new building the Top Cop revealed before the opening of the station.

Minister Benn who has responsibility for security in Guyana noted that there are still challenges to safety and security and in many instances, these come from small issues which eventually degenerate into the more worst forms of behavior which causes a ripple effect.

According to him, providing the physical structures and other needs of the force are important to improve the level of service and enhanced efficiency among service men and women.

Benn told the gathering that he is discovering more and more that Commissioner of Police Hicken is leaving good things in his wake as he engages with communities through Social Crime Preventions and community involvement.
