Dr. Ashni Singh returns as Finance Minister

Finance Minister Dr Ashni Singh took the oath of office as Senior Minister with responsibility for Finance in the Irfaan Ali led PPP administration.

In a late afternoon, swearing in the Credentials Room at the Office of the President, Singh who was living and working outside of Guyana, took the oath in the presence of his Cabinet colleagues before President Ali.

Singh will be a technocrat member of parliament as his name was not on the PPP/C 2020 list candidates. Singh served as Minister of Finance from 2006 to 2015.

It was in 2015 after the change of government following general elections, that Singh along with then NICIL Head Winston Brassington were charged jointly for misconduct in public office in relation to the sale of land to National Hardware and Multi-Cinema Guyana.

Dr Singh is a holder of a PhD Degree in Accounting and Finance.

Prior to his 2006 ministerial post he was Director of Budget in the Finance Minister and Deputy Auditor General in the Audit Office among other posts.
