WhatsApp text from Gov't Min, exposes plot to have SOCU target Top Cop/ Brutus

L-R Minister within the Ministry of Local Government Annand Persaud and Head of the Special Organised Crime Unit Fizal karimbaksh

On July 20, 2024, this publication received a forwarded WhatsApp Message where the sender indicated that a sitting government minister might be among a group of persons orchestrating a plan to have the Special Organized Crime Unit intensify its investigations against Assistant Commissioner of Police Calvin Brutus and that Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken should also be targeted in the process. The plot got into motion in May of 2024 based on the details now emerging from sources within.

One day after the WhatsApp message was sent, a publication was made on Social Media alleging a five hundred million dollar fraud that netted several departments of the Guyana Police Force, and that the fraud was linked to two senior officers.

An article which was published the day after the Minister circulated the WhatsApp text to several persons which he too received

The WhatsApp message seen by BIG Smith News Watch was sent by junior Minister of Local Government Annand Persaud and forwarded many times to several persons.

Given the inability of the Special Organised Crime Unit to prove that Assistant Commissioner of Police Calvin Brutus committed a crime, it seeks to prove that the funds that he attempted to deposit into his bank account indeed came from the supply of goods and services to the Guyana Police and monies he received before, during and after his wedding from guests who attended including the Head of SOCU Fizal karimbaksh is leading the charge to find out where the money came from. Karimbaksh is among the persons who gave Brutus and his bride a large amount of cash for their wedding.

The WhatsApp message seen by this publication spoke of bringing ‘pressure’ on Assistant Commissioner Karimbaksh who “will crack under the Correct pressure if applied’. The exact things (if any) that SOCU’s ‘handlers’ have hanging over the Head of Assistant Karimbaksh remains unknown at this point

What is public knowledge is that Assistant Commissioner of Police Fizal Karimbaksh’s policing career has been marred by multiple sexual allegations leveled against him.

The WhatsApp message now raises serious questions about the ability of SOCU, its head, and its operatives to conduct a clean and professional investigation into the allegations against Assistant Commissioner of Police Calvin Brutus. The question also begs, what untold stories could be so strong enough against Assistant Commissioner of Police Fizal Karimbaksh that it could be used as a bargaining chip to apply pressure against him in the Brutus probe?

Several calls were made from various sections of the society for the Calvin Brutus Investigations to be handled independently of the Guyana Police Force since public trust in  SOCU is at an all-time low.

Three weeks ago, this publication reached out to Attorney General Anil Nandlall who was asked about the details of the Brutus investigation into the public domain. The Minister was asked if he as the senior legal counsel for the state, was concerned that these leaks could potentially weaken the state’s case against Brutus.

“Why are you asking me these things, you have to ask the head of SOCU this thing. The Government has made it clear, that is a SOCU investigation and we will not become involved in it” Minister Nandlall told BIG Smith News Watch.
