Death of Ithaca man ends years of abuse for wife; suspect was her 'protector'
Relief from abuse: Toanna Wayne whose son killed her husband on Sunday
A family of Lot 114 Spencer Street, Ithaca, West Berbice, has been left traumatized and lost for words after a heated argument between a father and his son led to the death of the father, Collis Joseph.
As it is normal for parents and their children to have disagreements from time to time, it was quite a regular thing for Collis and Rashane as they were steadily at odds with each other.
Rashane, 18, recently began a new job at Kayman Sankar and lives with his grandfather just a street away from his parents and siblings.
Wife of the deceased and mother of the suspect, Toanna Wayne said her husband and son lived separately from each other, as her son never liked the way his father treated her when he drank and always attack and threatened her.
“Collis is my husband, I love him, but he does drink and get drunk and come home and beat me up. The last time he beat me and punch me in my left eye and damage it, he buss up my nose, and my son Rashane does always have to come in between to part fight when he beating me up.” the dead man’s wife related.

DEAD: Collis Joseph

The woman said even though his sole responsibility was to provide for her and their children, he never sought to assist her, but rather, her son Rashane and 17-year-old, Collin Wayne would sometimes help.

Rashane was at a shop Sunday morning when his father entered and started an argument. He then took his cutlass and chopped up Rashane’s tennis roll and soda which he had bought and also tore a thousand-dollar bill which the young man had on him at the time.
BIG Smith News Watch understands that Rashane ran home to avoid a violent confrontation with his father, but the man (Collis) followed him home and insisted that he come out of the house.
Collis, however, left the young man’s home and went outside his house, but soon after, walked back over to where his son lives.
Another argument arose and it was then that Collis pelted his son with a cutlass, but missed him. Rashane then picked up the said cutlass and pelted it at his father, hitting him directly and piercing his chest.
“My son always put himself in the middle to protect me, because he don’t like what his father does do to me. Long he don’t like the boy, because Rashane does try to protect me and my other children when Collis (his father) gets abusive.” the widow stated.
