October 15 2026
Farmers in the Moruca Sub-District, Region One, have received a range of agricultural tools, equipment and other inputs to support increased production and expand farming activities.
Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha handed over the supplies yesterday, including cutlasses, files, garden hoes, spades, mist blowers, brush cutters, chainsaws, fertilisers, agricultural chemicals, bumba pumps, spray cans, shadehouse plastic and shade mesh.
Two all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) were also provided to support agricultural activities in the sub-district.
During his engagement with farmers, Mustapha stressed the importance of increasing and diversifying agricultural production, while encouraging more women and young people to participate in the sector.
He also announced that the Ministry of Agriculture, through the National Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (NAREI), will establish similar shadehouse operations for women’s groups in Moruca.
The initiative is intended to create opportunities for women to become more involved in agricultural production and benefit from the sector’s growing potential.
Mustapha highlighted the role agriculture can play in creating employment, generating income and stimulating economic development in communities, particularly through increased production, diversification and value-added activities.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing farmers with the tools, technical support and resources needed to expand their operations, improve productivity and take advantage of emerging opportunities in Guyana’s developing agricultural sector.
Minister of Amerindian Affairs Sarah Browne-Shadeek and other regional officials were also present at the handover.
