16-year-old motorcyclist killed in Eccles Access Road crash

A 16-year-old motorcyclist was killed on Wednesday afternoon after losing control of his motorcycle and crashing into a lamp pole along Eccles Access Road, also known as Dumpsite Road, East Bank Demerara.
The teenager has been identified as Vitor Leca-De Alencar, of Green Acres, East Bank Demerara.
The fatal accident occurred around 4:00 p.m. on October 7, 2026, as Alencar was riding motorcycle CL 5461 west along the southern carriageway of the roadway.
According to Police, preliminary information indicates that the motorcycle was travelling at a fast rate of speed when the teenager lost control while negotiating a right-hand bend and collided with a lamp pole on the median separating the two carriageways.
The impact threw Alencar onto the roadway, leaving him with injuries to his head and other parts of his body.
Emergency Medical Technicians were summoned to the scene, where a doctor examined the teenager and pronounced him dead.
His body was subsequently taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The circumstances surrounding the crash are under investigation.
