Blind man falls in uncovered manhole

A blind man, believed to be a pensioner, fell into an open manhole on Regent Street, Georgetown, after leaving the Post Office.

The man reportedly visited the Bourda Post Office earlier today, while making his way out, unknowingly stepped into the open manhole located in the middle of the busy roadway.

He was eventually rescued by public-spirited citizens who came to his aid and managed to pull him from the manhole.

The extent of his injuries remains unclear, but the incident was particularly distressing as the man was reportedly unable to get himself out after the fall and had to depend on strangers for assistance.

The manhole was reportedly opened sometime ago to facilitate drainage cleaning but was allegedly left exposed without adequate barriers, warning signs or any other protection for pedestrians and motorists.

Following the incident, the manhole reportedly remains open, with stagnant, dirty water and garbage accumulated inside.

Beyond the danger posed by the uncovered opening, the filthy conditions raise additional health concerns for anyone who falls into the contaminated water.
