Under the ‘Laing Avenue Housing Grant’ initiative, the initial sixty families residing in Laing Avenue, Georgetown, and facing home repair needs have been granted $250,000 vouchers each.

This allocation is aimed at enabling them to obtain building materials, thereby elevating their living conditions, as pledged by Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo in November of the previous year.

The distribution event, which took place yesterday, was overseen by Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal, along with Permanent Secretary Mr. Bishram Kuppen, CEO of CH&PA Mr. Sherwyn Greaves, and CH&PA Deputy Director of Community Development Mrs. Donell Bess-Bascom at the agency’s Camp Street, Georgetown Office. The total value of this distribution batch stands at $15 million.

These vouchers are redeemable at designated suppliers such as Tooslie Persaud Ltd., Cemmax Procurement and Contracting, Gafsons Industries Ltd., and National Hardware. Furthermore, each unit owner or occupier is entitled to an additional $100,000 to offset labor costs associated with the rehabilitation process. This initiative is anticipated to benefit approximately 200 families in total.
