CH&PA pushes to fast-track $9.1B Reg. Three housing project

The Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) is pushing to fast-track a $9.1 billion Saudi-funded housing infrastructure project in Region Three, with more than 3,800 residential lots expected to be developed.

CH&PA Chief Executive Officer Dr Martin Pertab and Director of Projects Omar Narine met with contractors on Tuesday to discuss infrastructural works, including developments along the Versailles-to-Parika Highway corridor.

Pertab said the project is critical to meeting growing housing demand in Region Three, which currently has nearly 10,000 pending housing applications.

Although the works have a contractual completion period of 10 months, Pertab said CH&PA is aiming for completion within six to seven months so that beneficiaries can access the lots and begin construction sooner.

The investment covers land preparation, infrastructure development and the installation of utilities, with the additional residential lots expected to significantly expand CH&PA’s capacity to address housing demand in the region.

Narine urged contractors to mobilise quickly, coordinate closely and maintain high standards throughout the project. He also warned that contractors’ performance would be considered when future contracts are awarded.

The meeting was also attended by HSE Manager Sunil Gopaul, Supervisory Engineer Albert Narine, Project Engineer Kenola Levans and supervisory consultants PACE-SRKN.
