Career criminal Alex Pickering, the bandit who fled a Linden gas station after a female cashier snatched his firearm during a robbery, has been sentenced to three years in prison.

Pickering, 35, also known as “Small Man” or “Awo,” of Victory Valley, Wismar, was sentenced today at the Wismar Magistrates’ Court after pleading guilty to robbery under arms.

Pickering was reportedly released from prison just about two weeks before committing the offence.

The robbery occurred around 9:15 p.m. on Friday, September 4, at Hinds Gas Station, Linden.

Pickering allegedly entered the establishment armed with a gun and forced a female cashier to hand over an undisclosed amount of cash.

However, when Pickering placed the firearm on the counter while attempting to collect additional money, the cashier grabbed the gun and pointed it at him.

Pickering then fled the scene.

Police subsequently captured him around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 9, at a Wismar boat landing.

He has now been returned to prison to serve his three-year sentence.
