61-Y-O Businesswoman arrested for contraband liquor at Port Kaituma

A 61-year-old businesswoman is in police custody after a quantity of suspected uncustomed goods was seized during an intelligence-led operation at Turn Basin, Port Kaituma, North West District.
The operation was conducted on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, by police ranks attached to Regional Division #1, who searched a business premises in the area.
During the search, police reportedly found a substantial quantity of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages suspected to have been unlawfully imported into Guyana.
The goods were seized and taken to the Port Kaituma Police Station, where they were lodged pending further investigations.
The 61-year-old Port Kaituma businesswoman was arrested and remains in custody as police continue their probe.
Investigators are liaising with the relevant authorities as they work to determine the circumstances surrounding the suspected illegal importation of the goods.
