A pedestrian was struck by a car on Durban Street, between Chapel and Victor Streets, Georgetown, earlier today, with witnesses reporting that an ambulance was unavailable for more than 45 minutes after repeated calls for assistance.

According to persons at the scene, the driver, is employed with Dionne’s Delight fast-food establishment on Durban Street.

Following the collision, he reportedly contacted the business, after which another vehicle was sent to collect food from his car.

Witnesses claimed that the other driver, sent by the company only came to transfer the food from his vehicle into the replacement car.

The driver reportedly told persons at the scene that he was travelling along Durban Street when an e-bike suddenly pulled into his path. He said he was unable to avoid it and swerved towards the corner, where he struck the pedestrian.

However, witnesses gave a different account, claiming that the pedestrian was cleaning his bridge when he was struck and alleging that the car was travelling at a high rate of speed.

The condition of the pedestrian is not immediately known.

The circumstances surrounding the accident remain under investigation.
