A 38-year-old businessman is in police custody following an alleged firearm incident during an altercation with another road user along the Pouderoyen Public Road, West Bank Demerara, on Saturday afternoon.

The incident reportedly occurred around 5:20 p.m. and involved the businessman and a 28-year-old construction worker from Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo.

According to preliminary investigations, the construction worker was driving along the roadway when he encountered the businessman, who was travelling on a motorcycle. An argument reportedly followed.

During the altercation, the businessman allegedly drew a firearm, pointed it at the construction worker and issued a threat, causing the man to fear for his safety.

Police subsequently contacted and arrested the businessman after receiving information about the incident.

The firearm was identified as a licensed .32 Taurus pistol registered to the businessman. A magazine containing 11 live rounds of .32 ammunition was also seized and lodged as part of the investigation.

CCTV cameras in the area were identified, and footage was reviewed by investigators.

The businessman remains in custody as investigations continue.
