APA demands Ministers’ resignations after MV Barima tragedy

Scores of persons have joined the Amerindian People’s Association (APA) and are currently picketing outside the Office of the President on Vlissengen Road, calling for the resignation of Minister of Public Works Bishop Juan Edghill and Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation Deodat Indar.
The demonstrators say both ministers should be held politically accountable following the recent capsizing of the MV Barima, a tragedy that claimed the lives of more than 100 people.
Protesters gathered with placards and chants demanding the immediate resignation of the two ministers as public scrutiny over the disaster continues.
The demonstration comes amid growing calls from sections of the public and opposition groups for Minister Edghill’s removal over alleged shortcomings in maritime oversight and safety.
To date, the Government has not indicated that it intends to take action against either minister while investigations into the tragedy remain ongoing.
