The Guyana Police Force (GPF) says it continues to play a key role in the multi-agency search and recovery operation following the sinking of the MV Barima.

Police ranks from the Marine Section, Tactical Services Unit (TSU), Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and Regional Police Divisions One and Two are conducting coordinated searches by boat several miles offshore and around the wreck site.

According to a statement from the GPF,the Force is also deploying drones to assist in locating persons still unaccounted for and supporting the recovery of bodies.

Police are working alongside the Guyana Defence Force Coast Guard and Air Corps, the French Armed Forces, the Brazilian Navy, the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard, and other national, regional and international teams involved in the operation.

The GPF said it remains committed to the recovery mission and will continue deploying personnel and resources as the search for the remaining missing persons continues.
