Young gold miner among those missing after MV Barima goes down

Delroy Daniels, a 25-year-old resident of Hotoquai Hill, Aruka River, Region One, is among the persons who were onboard the distressed MV Barima, which sank off the coast of Essequibo between July 18 and 19, 2026, while travelling from Georgetown to Port Kaituma.
His cousin, Dwayne Oselmo, told BIG Smith News Watch that Daniels worked in gold mining in Bartica and had travelled to Georgetown to board the MV Barima to return home to Region One.
Oselmo said Daniels had been working in the interior and was heading home when the tragedy occurred.
He said three of Daniels’ friends went together to assist in the rescue efforts after the vessel sank, but they reported that they did not see him again after the boat went down.
The family is seeking information on Daniels’ whereabouts as the search continues for those missing from the MV Barima.
