Five persons are in custody as investigations continue into a violent home invasion at Good Hope, East Coast Demerara, during which a family was assaulted and robbed by armed bandits.

The incident occurred around 03:45 hrs on Monday, June 8, at the home of a 49-year-old businessman.

According to police reports, the man was at home with his wife and two daughters when approximately seven masked men, armed with firearms and other weapons, stormed the property.

The intruders allegedly forced their way into the house before assaulting the occupants and ransacking the premises. Jewellery, cellular phones, cash and personal documents were reportedly stolen during the attack.

The victims were later taken for medical attention following the ordeal.

As investigations intensified, authorities conducted a search at Good Hope Phase Two on Tuesday, where two .32 pistols were recovered from a blue cookie tin hidden in a dam.

The firearms have since been secured for examination.

A 21-year-old labourer and a 33-year-old taxi driver, both of Good Hope Squatting Area, were initially detained in connection with the investigation. Three additional suspects were later taken into custody, bringing the total number of persons being questioned to five.

Investigations into the armed robbery and the recovered firearms are ongoing.
