Remains of Berbice man missing since 2022 found

April 29 2026
The remains of a Berbice man who had been missing for several years have been found and positively identified, bringing a tragic end to a long and uncertain search.
In a statement on her social pages earlier today, Ashmi Mangal confirmed that her half-brother, Aaron Veeramootoo, also known as Sunil, has been located.
She said the discovery brings closure after years of searching, though many details surrounding his disappearance and death remain unknown.
Mangal expressed gratitude to those who supported the family throughout the search, including the Guyana Police Force, which she credited for playing a crucial role in resolving the matter.
She also appealed for privacy and sensitivity as the family mourns, urging the public to avoid speculation during this difficult period.
Veeramootoo, who was 51 at the time of his disappearance, was last seen in November 2022 at a relative’s home in Reliance, East Canje Berbice. According to earlier reports, he left the residence sometime overnight without the knowledge of family members.
Relatives had noted that he was unwell and mentally vulnerable at the time, and extensive searches in areas he was known to frequent yielded no results.
His disappearance prompted public appeals for assistance, but no information had surfaced until the recent discovery of his remains.
Family members described him as someone who endured many hardships but remained kind and considerate to others. They are now hoping he finds peace as they come to terms with his loss.
