April 27 2026
A quantity of suspected cannabis weighing more than 45 pounds was discovered during an operation along the Weldaad Public Road, West Coast Berbice, on Thursday afternoon.

Police reports indicate that the discovery was made around 15:40 hrs after a white Toyota Fielder wagon with two male occupants was intercepted along the roadway.
A search of the vehicle led to the finding of four bulky parcels wrapped in transparent plastic, concealed inside two multi-coloured shopping bags in the trunk.
The parcels reportedly contained leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The driver, a 28-year-old Devin Semple of Timmers Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, and his passenger, a 20-year-old Antonio Peters also of New Amsterdam, were subsequently taken into custody.
The suspected narcotics were later weighed in the presence of the two men and amounted to approximately 45.4 pounds.
The vehicle and the suspected cannabis have since been lodged as investigations continue.
