Labourer killed in accident involving Police Sergeant

A 27-year-old labourer was killed and a Police Sergeant injured following a head-on collision along Enmore Public Road, East Coast Demerara, on Sunday morning.
Dead is Keshon Arthur of Hand-en-Veldt, Mahaica.
The injured man has been identified as a 33-year-old Police Sergeant of Belmont, Mahaica, who was driving in the opposite direction at the time of the crash.
Police reports indicate that the accident occurred at approximately 05:45hrs when Arthur, who was travelling east, reportedly attempted to overtake several vehicles and entered the path of the oncoming car driven by the sergeant, who was proceeding west.
Despite efforts by the sergeant to avoid the collision by steering further south along the roadway, the two vehicles collided.
Both men sustained injuries and were assisted from the wreckage by public-spirited citizens and Emergency Medical Technicians before being taken to the Enmore Regional Hospital.
Arthur was pronounced dead on arrival, while the Police Sergeant was admitted with a broken right leg and multiple lacerations.
His condition has been listed as stable.
Arthur’s body has since been taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
