Pizza chefs get shot at international stage

February 17 2026
European Union Ambassador Luca Pierantoni turned up the heat last evening, hosting a lively Pizza Night, at his residence in Bel Air Springs, that blended food, culture, and international flair.
The spotlight was on Neapolitan pizza—officially recognised by UNESCO as part of the world’s cultural heritage—setting the stage for a major announcement that had guests buzzing.
Ambassador Pierantoni revealed that the European Union will collaborate to host the first-ever Guyana Pizza Competition this June — a landmark event for local food lovers and culinary creatives.
And the stakes are high.
The winning pizza maker will earn the honour of representing Guyana at the continental pizza championship in Buenos Aires this September.
Best of all, the competition will be open to both professionals and amateurs, giving everyone a shot at international pizza glory.
Ambassador Pierantoni later put his skills on display, personally preparing pizzas for his guests while demonstrating the techniques, attention to detail, and quality that define this unique style of pizza.
