Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha on Monday met with a visiting Brazilian delegation led by Antonio Oliverio García de Almeida, Governor of the Roraima, to discuss strengthened collaboration aimed at advancing Guyana’s cattle industry and agro-processing sector.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, discussions centred on opportunities for technical cooperation, genetic improvement, value-added processing, and expanded market access, as both countries continue to deepen agricultural ties.

The Brazilian delegation is in Guyana to participate in the Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo and earlier met with President Irfaan AliMohamed Irfaan Ali and other senior government officials.

Since 2020, the Government of Guyana has invested heavily in modernising and expanding the livestock and agro-processing sectors.

These efforts include improved breeding programmes, infrastructure upgrades, targeted support for small and medium-scale processors, and initiatives aimed at boosting production while reducing food imports.

Minister Mustapha noted that partnerships with leading agricultural regions in Brazil could further accelerate progress, enhance productivity, and strengthen food security, while creating new economic opportunities for farmers and agro-processors across Guyana.
