An elderly man was sentenced to imprisonment after pleading guilty to a charge of unlawful wounding when he appeared before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

The accused, Claud Howard, was arraigned before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty.

He is charged with unlawfully and maliciously wounding Terrence Grenada at Bourda Market on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.

According to the prosecution, the incident arose from an argument between Howard and Grenada.

During the confrontation, Howard reportedly dealt the complainant several lashes with a stick before fleeing the scene. He was subsequently arrested.

The prosecutor further told the court that Grenada sustained swelling to his eyes and scars to his face as a result of the attack.

After considering the facts of the case and Howard’s guilty plea, Acting Chief Magistrate McGusty ordered him to pay a fine of $20,000 or serve six weeks’ imprisonment in default.
