On Sunday evening, January 18, 2026, 34-year-old Hamton Chichester of Lot 1278 Bachelor’s Adventure, East Coast Demerara was gunned down while riding along the Bareroot Access Road. His body bore two gunshot wounds, one to the chest and one above the left shoulder.
Police detectives were told that the man was earlier involved in an altercation with a named individual from Dazzle Housing Scheme, where Chichester was being accused of having an affair with the wife of the man from Dazzle.
Police visited the home of that man and his wife after the killing, but they were not located, and efforts to contact them were also futile.
At the crime scene on Sunday night, relatives were inconsolable as they wept over the body of Chichester, which lay on the roadside.
A 150 XR motorcycle bearing registration number CJ-5272 was observed partially submerged in the western trench beside the body. It was the motorcycle that the deceased was riding when he was murdered.
One woman said she was at a nearby shop plaiting her hair when she heard three loud explosions followed by a curious crowd in the direction the sound came from. She also went, and it was there she observed that someone was shot; she was also able to identify the victim, and contact was made with the police.
The police are continuing their investigations.
