A 22-year-old pregnant woman has died following an apparent jump from a window at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) earlier this evening.
The deceased has been identified as Marissa Eastman, a resident of Parfaite Harmonie, Region Three.
Reports indicate that Eastman was approximately seven months pregnant at the time of the incident.
According to preliminary information, Eastman was a patient in the female medical ward and was under medical observation when the incident occurred.
Police were summoned to the scene shortly after the incident and have since secured the area as investigations continue.
Eastman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her relatives were nformed, and several family members were seen at the hospital as inquiries commenced.
Police and hospital officials have not yet released an official statement outlining the circumstances leading up to her death.
Earlier in the day, Eastman reportedly went live on her social media account while lying in a hospital bed, during which she appeared visibly distressed and emotional.
During the livestream, she allegedly revealed that she was suffering from a life-threatening illness, which persons close to her believe may have contributed to her actions.
She also posted what has been described as a ‘goodbye message’ on her Facebook page.
The video and post circulated widely on social media.
In the aftermath of her death, individuals close to the young woman took to social media to express frustration and concern, alleging that despite clear signs of emotional distress and warnings shared online, their requests for increased supervision and family presence were not adequately addressed.
