The tainted Special Organized Crime Unit on Friday bowed to public, legal and media pressures and has released police traffic Sergeant Canterbury after BIG Smith News Watch reported that the organization breached several procedures when they arrested and detained him in his police uniform and later threw into a police lockups.

On Friday, acting only under pressure, SOCU operatives who had intended to keep the policeman in their custody and in a police jail cell until Monday afternoon, released him but with conditions.

To ad injury to insult, the police rank was reverted from his duties as a traffic rank and transferred to the Tactical Services Unit located at Force Headquarters Eve Leary.

The rank was also cautioned that he is to report to Senior Superintendent Singh at the Special Organized Crime Unit on Monday at 09:00hrs.

Police Sergeant Canterbury is the rank who was who was lured from his assigned duties earlier this week by agents of SOCU and taken to the East Bank Demerara where he was instructed to the tow away an SUV belonging to the Mohameds.

As the rank was about to carry out the action reluctantly as he saw no clear traffic violations being committed as the vehicle was parked, he was then instructed by another operative of SOCU who told him to leave the vehicle alone.

At the time, the vehicle was parked, its driver, someone believed to be a relative of the Mohameds or Azruddin Mohamed himself, was inside a masjid praying.

The state is alleging that there were several breaches committed when Azruddin Mohamed had the vehicle which has special security features including bullet proff components, was transferred to someone else

SOCU has long been accused of being a heavily corrupted entity with little or no regard for the rule of law, human, social rights of Guyanese Citizens.
