In a major step to improve the education sector, President of Guyana Dr Irfaan Ali, on Thursday officially commissioned the Yas School of Inspiration at Crane, West Coast Demerara, marking another major milestone in the country’s drive to provide inclusive and equitable education for all children.

The commissioning ceremony was held in the presence of Her Excellency Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, who represented His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Her participation highlighted the strong and growing partnership among the Government of Guyana, the Office of the First Lady, and the Government of the United Arab Emirates in advancing educational opportunities, particularly for children with special needs.

The Yas School of Inspiration is Guyana’s 49th recognised Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) space.

The institution is designed to serve children between the ages of three and seven, including learners with autism and intellectual disabilities.

Spanning approximately 3,700 square feet, the facility was constructed through a collaborative effort involving the Government of Guyana, the Office of the First Lady, and the Government of the United Arab Emirates.

It is equipped to accommodate about 50 children, with each classroom staffed by a trained teacher and supported by two teaching assistants to ensure individualized instruction and comprehensive care.

In keeping with the Government’s commitment to accessibility, transportation will also be provided to facilitate students’ safe travel to and from the school.

The commissioning of the Yas School of Inspiration reflects Guyana’s continued focus on expanding specialized education services and strengthening partnerships to ensure no child is left behind.
