Minister of Natural Resources, Vickram Bharrat, on Wednesday engaged small and large forestry concession holders in a high-level meeting aimed at strengthening operations and improving performance across the forestry sector.

The engagement, hosted by the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) in collaboration with the Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC), brought together key stakeholders for an interactive discussion on the challenges and opportunities facing concessionaires.

Minister Bharrat was joined by Permanent Secretary Joslyn McKenzie; Commissioner of Forests, Edward Goberdhan; and senior officials from both the MNR and the GFC.

In his remarks, Minister Bharrat reiterated the critical role the forestry sector plays within Guyana’s wider natural resources framework.

He emphasized the need for innovative decision-making to enhance efficiency and overall performance within the industry.

The minister also encouraged concession holders to increase their participation in value-added production, noting that such initiatives would not only strengthen the sector but also enable stakeholders to benefit more fully from the economic opportunities available.

The meeting forms part of the government’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainable development, improved productivity, and greater economic returns within the forestry sector.
