November 13 2025

The Guyana Prison Service (GPS) has announced that it will conduct a contingency emergency response exercise on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at the Lusignan Prison from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

According to a public notice from the Office of the Director of Prisons, the exercise will be carried out in collaboration with the Joint Services and forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the prison system’s readiness to effectively manage emergencies.

The simulation aims to evaluate and review existing contingency plans by testing officers’ ability to respond to various incident scenarios within the facility. The GPS emphasized that the exercise is purely a drill, urging members of the public not to be alarmed or fearful during the scheduled activity.

See full statement below:

“PUBLIC NOTICE

The first exercise will take place on Thursday, November 13, 2025, from 10:30am to 12:30pm at Lusignan Prison.
The GPS wishes to inform the public that there is no need to be alarmed, fearful, or panicked during the activity.
