Man Confesses to Killing ‘DJ Viper’ During Laluni Party Brawl

A Laluni resident, Dwayne Thomas, has confessed to unlawfully killing Brian Pitman, a 28-year-old disc jockey known as “DJ Viper,” during a violent confrontation outside a birthday celebration in January 2023.

Thomas, who was 20 years old at the time, appeared before Chief Justice (ag) Navindra Singh at the High Court in Demerara, where he pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
He had initially faced a murder indictment but opted to admit to the lesser offence after an agreed statement of facts was read in court.
Thomas, who remains in custody, is being represented by attorney-at-law Madan Kissoon.
The case is being prosecuted by State Counsel Simran Gajraj, Christopher Belfield, and Geneva Wills.
Sentencing has been fixed for November 19, 2025.
The court heard that on the night of January 8, 2023, Pitman attended a family birthday party in Laluni, located along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
Around 8:00 p.m., Thomas and several other men on motorcycles were seen assaulting Pitman’s father-in-law, Omar Bacchus, on the roadway outside the home.
In an attempt to intervene, Pitman armed himself with a piece of wood and ran toward the commotion.
However, he was confronted by Thomas and two others, all of whom were armed with sharp weapons. The men attacked Pitman, inflicting multiple chops as he fell to the ground.
He was later rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
A post-mortem examination confirmed that he sustained four severe incised wounds caused by a sharp, heavy object.
His death was attributed to haemorrhage and shock resulting from those injuries.
