October 17 2025
— A Proud Milestone of Discipline, Legacy, and Service
Fenton Budhram, has officially been admitted to the Bar, marking a proud new chapter in his family’s legacy of public service and dedication.
The admission ceremony took place on Thursday, October 16, 2025, where the petition was presented by Director of Public Prosecutions, Mrs. Shalimar Ali-Hack, and granted by Chief Justice (ag.) Navindra Singh.
In attendance were several senior officers of the Guyana Police Force, including Commissioner of Police Mr. Clifton Hicken, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Simon McBean, Senior Superintendents Jermaine Johnson and Bharat Persaud, Colonel Sheldon Howell, along with relatives, colleagues, and friends who gathered to celebrate the milestone.
Budhram’s achievement stands as a testament to discipline, perseverance, and the strength of family values. Raised by his parents, Deputy Commissioner Ravindradat Budhram and Mrs. Laleita Budhram, a teacher by profession, he credits their unwavering support and shared pursuit of education as his greatest source of motivation.
“There was a time when my entire family was preparing for exams — my father and mother for their University of Guyana exams, my brother for his high school finals, and myself for CSEC. We’d all gather at the dining table, which became a symbol of shared ambition and discipline,” he recalled.
Fenton’s academic journey began at Juliet Griffith Daycare and continued through the public school system, leading him to the University of Guyana, where he achieved a historic milestone — graduating alongside his father from the Department of Law.
“Graduating alongside my father was a proud and memorable moment,” he said. “From a young age, I admired his accomplishments and was inspired to follow a similar path.”
Motivated by his father’s distinguished career in law enforcement, Budhram shared that his decision to pursue law stemmed from witnessing firsthand the importance of justice and integrity in public service.
“I chose the legal route to contribute to the ongoing effort of strengthening justice and public service,” he explained.
After completing his studies at the University of Guyana, he attended the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad and Tobago, where he obtained his Legal Education Certificate — another major step in his professional journey.
Reflecting on his path, he quoted one of his favourite authors, Sidney Sheldon:
“Life is like a novel; it’s filled with suspense. You have no idea what is going to happen until you turn the page.”
Fenton Budhram’s call to the Bar not only marks a personal triumph but also highlights the continued growth of a family deeply rooted in service to Guyana — bridging law enforcement and legal excellence with a shared commitment to justice, discipline, and national development.
