A Police Constable attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters, Eve Leary, Georgetown, on Wednesday, had a matter for attempting to pervert the course of justice dismissed against him, after the complainant refused to testify.

Twenty-eight-year-old Mario Parasram, a father of two, of Sophia, Greater Georgetown was on trial for the offence before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

This morning, when the matter was called, the complainant, Patris Petrie told the court that he no longer wanted to proceed with the case. As such, the matter was dismissed.

It was alleged that between June 9 and July 6, 2021, at Georgetown, Parasram willfully attempted to pervert the course of justice by demanding $200,000 from Patris Petrie to prevent the institution of a criminal charge against the said Petrie.

The Policeman had pleaded not guilty to the charge on his first court appearance and was released on $100,000 bail.

He was represented by Attorney-at-law Bernard Da Silva.
