Two Dead, One Critical after Soesdyke Highway Crash

September 25, 2025 – A midnight crash along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway near Loo Creek has left two men dead and another hospitalized with serious injuries.

Police reported that the accident occurred at around 12:00 a.m. Thursday and involved a parked motor lorry (#GAH 5391) and a motor pickup (#PAE 6499).

The lorry, driven by 31-year-old Liston Marcus of Ruimveldt, Georgetown, had reportedly broken down and was left unattended on the western side of the highway around 10:50 p.m. Investigators said the vehicle was parked facing north without reflectors or warning devices to alert other road users.

At high speed, the pickup, driven by 54-year-old Chinese national Da Tai Lei of Lethem, Rupununi, slammed into the rear of the lorry. His passengers were identified as 41-year-old Wen Wu Lei, also a Chinese national, and 87-year-old Edward Singh of Lethem.

All three sustained multiple injuries and were pulled from the wreck by police and public-spirited citizens before being rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex. Doctors pronounced Da Tai Lei and Singh dead on arrival, while Wen Wu Lei remains hospitalized in serious condition.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home pending post-mortem examinations. Meanwhile, Marcus, the lorry driver, has been taken into custody as investigations continue.
