Ex-cop Faces High Court Trial for 2014 Murder of MFK

Former policeman Leyon Lindo was arraigned on Monday before Justice Simone Morris at the High Court in Demerara, where he is to stand trial on a charge of conspiracy to commit murder.

Lindo is accused of plotting with Lennox Wayne, also known as “Two Colours”, to kill prominent Georgetown businessman Mohamed Faraad Khan, the proprietor of MFK Trading.

When the indictment was read, Lindo entered a firm plea of not guilty. His trial is ongoing.

He is being represented by defence attorney Dexter Todd, while State Counsel Padma Dubraj is leading the case for the prosecution.

The charge stems from one of the country’s most disturbing murder cases in recent history. In September 2014, Khan’s decapitated body was discovered at Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara.

At the time, investigators reported that his remains bore shocking mutilations: one leg had been severed from the knee down, the foot of the other was missing, and his head, stuffed into a plastic bag, was found close by.

Lindo was first charged in May 2015.

In January 2017, a Georgetown magistrate committed him to stand trial after finding that the prosecution had established a prima facie case at the conclusion of the preliminary inquiry.

He has remained on cash bail while awaiting the hearing and determination of his trial.
