Two-time defending champions Headquarters successfully defended their title by defeating the Officers by 28 runs in the Commissioner’s Birth Anniversary T20 cricket match on Friday, September 12 at the Police Sports Club ground in Eve Leary.

In front of vociferous crowd, Headquarters showcased their skill, finishing with a score of 141-9 after struggling early on, thanks to a crucial 73-run sixth-wicket partnership between Man-of-the-Match Kanakya Ramkarran, who scored 49, and Kapildeo Charandeen, who added 41.

The Officers, in response, were bowled out for 113 in just 17.3 overs. Only Troy Benn, who top-scored with 44, and Trevor Benn, who contributed 24, managed to put up a fight against Headquarters’ bowling attack, led by off-spinner Dwayne Dick, who took 3 wickets for 13 runs.

Headquarters faced an early setback, sinking to 15-3, but Ramkarran and Charandeen’s partnership helped stabilize the innings. Ramkarran hit two sixes in the 16th over to reach the team’s 100 before being bowled by Trevor Benn, who finished with impressive bowling figures of 4-16.

In the Officers’ innings, they quickly fell to 34-4, with Dick taking key wickets. Troy Benn played a spirited innings to entertain the crowd but eventually fell at 74-6. Trevor Benn attempted to accelerate the scoring but was dismissed at 108-9.

Police commissioner Cliffton Hicken hands over championship trophy to Headquarters

Headquarters received a trophy and $350,000 for their victory, while the Officers took home a trophy and $250,000. TSU, who won the third-place playoff against 4A and 4B, earned a trophy and $150,000.
