National Cyclist Alanzo Greaves Killed in Motorcycle Crash

September 4 2025 – Former national cyclist Alanzo Greaves tragically lost his life late Wednesday night in a motorcycle accident along Mandela Avenue, near the Botanical Gardens.
The 36-year-old of Gordon Street, Kitty, Georgetown, was riding a red, white, and black Ducati motorcycle (registration CH 5222) at around 23:30 hrs when the fatal crash occurred.
A police report revealed that Greaves was heading south at a high rate of speed and was not wearing a helmet. While in the vicinity of the Botanical Gardens, he reportedly lost control of the motorcycle, which veered southeast and struck a heap of mud situated on the extreme eastern edge of the roadway.
The impact threw Greaves violently to the ground, leaving him with severe head injuries and other trauma.
Emergency Medical Technicians responded swiftly to the scene, but despite their efforts, Dr. Walcott pronounced him dead on arrival.
Greaves, a once-celebrated name in Guyana’s cycling circuit, had represented the country in numerous national and regional competitions before stepping back from the sport.
Police say investigations into the incident are ongoing.
