Twenty-five-year-old Niraz Sukdeo of Lancaster Village, Corentyne, was on Wednesday sentenced to three years and two months in prison for causing the death of his girlfriend, 18-year-old Bibi Aleah Ali, during a tragic crash last year.

The sentence was handed down by Magistrate Tuanna Hardy at the Number 51 Magistrate’s Court, following Sukdeo’s conviction for causing death by dangerous driving.

Dead: Bibi Aleah Ali

The incident occurred on July 22, 2024, when Sukdeo, reportedly under the influence of alcohol and speeding, lost control of motor car PAF 6330 on the Kiltairn Public Road, Corentyne.

The vehicle slammed into a crane parked along the roadside for a highway expansion project. The impact was so severe it shifted the heavy machinery and flung Ali—who was in the front passenger seat—out of the car.

She suffered massive injuries and was pronounced dead at the Skeldon Hospital shortly after the crash.

Sukdeo, a medical technologist who shared a home with Ali in Lancaster Village, sustained multiple injuries and was hospitalised for several weeks.
