A 24-year-old construction worker from Annandale has been remanded to prison after being charged with the rape of a child under the age of 16.

The accused, Andrew Ali, of Lot 12 Annandale Railway Embankment, was arrested on July 1, 2025, by a rank from the Cove and John Police Station.

Two days later, on July 3, he was officially charged with the offence under Section 10(3) of the Sexual Offences Act, Chapter 8:03.

Ali appeared before His Worship Sunil Scarce at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read. He was not required to plead and was remanded to prison.

The matter has been adjourned to August 5, 2025, for disclosure as the police continue their investigations.
