Shamar Williams Charged with Assaulting Officer, Cited for Numerous Traffic Breaches

June 2, 2025 — Shamar Williams, a 24-year-old resident of the Sophia Squatting Area, appeared before two Georgetown magistrates on Monday to answer to a series of charges, including assaulting a police officer and multiple traffic violations.

Williams first appeared before Magistrate Fabayo. Azore at the Georgetown Magistrate Court, where he was charged in connection with an altercation involving Police Constable Frank Corlette. He faced the following charges:

  • Assault Causing Actual Bodily Harm – Williams pleaded not guilty and was granted $15,000 bail.

  • Damage to Property – He also pleaded not guilty and was granted $10,000 bail.

  • Assaulting a Peace Officer with Intent to Resist Lawful Arrest – For this charge, Williams was remanded to prison.

The matter has been adjourned to June 23, 2025.

Later that day, Williams appeared before Magistrate Lallram in Magistrate Court 7, where he faced a slew of traffic-related offences, most of which he pleaded guilty to. The charges and penalties included:

  • Unlicensed Driver – Fined $30,000 or six weeks’ imprisonment

  • Failure to Conform to Sign – Fined $20,000 or four weeks

  • Failure to Wear Safety Helmet – Fined $10,000 or two weeks

  • Breach of One-Way Street – Fined $20,000 or four weeks

  • Uninsured Motor Vehicle – Fined $30,000 or six weeks

  • Unlicensed Motor Vehicle – Fined $20,000 or four weeks

  • Uncertified Motor Vehicle – Fined $25,000 or five weeks

  • Poor Maintenance of Motor Vehicle – Fined $20,000 or four weeks

  • Obscured Rear Identification Mark – Fined $150,000 or 30 weeks

  • Failure to Have Front Identification Mark – Pleaded not guilty and was placed on $10,000 bail.

In total, Williams was fined $325,000 and granted $10,000 bail in relation to the traffic charges.
