Men granted bail in ‘Bricks’ Abduction Case

Seven men have been jointly charged with the alleged abduction of Joshua David, also known as “Bricks” who has been missing since September 26, 2024.

Each of the accused was granted $500,000 bail during their appearance before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Friday, October 11, 2024.

The defendants are Wayne Barker, 34, of Laing Avenue, Georgetown; Dameion “Dangles” Barlow, 32, of ‘B’ Field Sophia, Georgetown; Dwayne “Shiek” Griffith, 24, of Kitty, Georgetown; Davantai “Sharkie” Mars, 21, of La Penitence, Georgetown; Alpha Poole, 28, of Kitty; Osafo “Saddest” Peters, 28, of Kitty; and Aaron “Cats” Alleyne, 26, of West La Penitence, Georgetown.

They stand accused of abducting David with the intent of wrongfully and secretly confining him.

The charge, being indictable, did not require the men to enter pleas.

Poole and Peters had initially been charged and remanded the previous week, but following the arrests of the remaining suspects, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) recommended that all seven be jointly charged.

The Acting Chief Magistrate overruled the Prosecutor’s submissions and said it was a bailable offence under the Act and that the Police did not find the victim’s body.

During the hearing, the court imposed bail conditions requiring the men to surrender their passports and report to the Brickdam Police Station every Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

They are scheduled to return to court on November 15, 2024. The seven accused persons have retained legal counsel while Deniro Jones in the police prosecutor.

David, 34, of Georgetown was reportedly kidnapped on September 26, 2024, from Main Street, Georgetown, with surveillance footage capturing parts of the incident.

Despite extensive searches in areas such as Buxton and the Annandale Backlands on the East Coast of Demerara, authorities have yet to locate him.

The disappearance has drawn considerable public attention, and all seven suspects, previously named in police wanted bulletins, voluntarily turned themselves in.

Police investigations into David’s whereabouts continue as the case progresses.
