Charlestown Mechanic Remanded for Truck Repair Fraud

Fabian Da Silva, a 56-year-old mechanic from Adelaide Street, Charlestown, Georgetown, has been remanded to prison after being charged with obtaining $125,000 by false pretense.

Da Silva is accused of fraudulently accepting the sum from Andel Fraser on March 17, 2024, under the pretense that he would repair Fraser’s Mitsubishi Canter truck.

Appearing in court on Monday, Da Silva was not required to enter a plea.

Fraser informed the court that he would accept $250,000 in compensation for the false claim. However, Da Silva’s mother failed to provide any compensation, prompting his remand.

Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore had initially considered granting bail, but Fraser expressed concerns, stating, “Da Silva is a very hard man to find.”

This led the magistrate to deny bail, and Da Silva will remain in custody until his next court appearance on October 7, 2024.
