The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has advised the police to conduct further investigations into the death

of one-year-old Raheem Fung before a decision can be made about possible charges against his baby sitter.

BIG Smith News Watch has confirmed that the case file was returned to police investigators this week.

The office of the DPP reassured the child’s mother, Rhonda Kortright-Fung, that the DPP was perusing the file.

Raheem’s parents had repeatedly expressed frustration that, months after a file was reportedly sent to the DPP’s office, the case appeared to have stalled.

“I feel more confident now that I will get justice for my son’s death,” Rhonda Kortright told Big Smith News Watch on Thursday.

Raheem Fung, who had lived with his parents at Circuitville, Yarrowkabra, on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway, sustained head injuries in September, 2023, allegedly while in his babysitter’s care.

He died while undergoing treatment in the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Police arrested and released the babysitter, pending the outcome of the investigation.

The babysitter is a niece of Raheem’s father, Kevin Fung.

BIG Smith News Watch has confirmed that police have a written statement from a resident who claimed to have seen the child being physically assaulted.

Raheem’s parents also provided recordings to BIG Smith News Watch of two other individuals who claimed to have seen the toddler being slapped and locked outside.

The parents also said they had observed bruises on Raheem’s body, prior to him sustaining his fatal injury.
