“Iswe” remanded for Shonette Dover’s murder

24-year-old Shaquawn Alleyne, also known as “Iswe,” was sent to prison on remand on a murder charge by Magistrate Wanda Fortune before whom he appeared on Tuesday.
Alleyne went on the run for nearly three years after it was reported that he shot and killed his 21-year-old girlfriend Shonette Dover, burying her in a shallow grave in their backyard.
Alleyne made a virtual appearance at the Linden Magistrate’s Courts.

It is alleged that between April 3 and 30, 2021, he murdered Dover. Alleyne, who was not represented by a lawyer, was remanded to prison until February 27, 2024.
In his remarks to the magistrate, Alleyne disclosed that he works as a barber, lives in Wismar, Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) with his father and has a four-month-old child.
The body of Dover, a bartender from Canvas City, Wismar, Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice), was found buried in the backyard of the house she shared with her partner on April 30, 2021. Dover disappeared on April 3, 2021.
One shot to the head wounded the woman. Alleyne allegedly admitted to the crime and told the local police investigators that he had shot his lover by accident. He stated that a bullet hit Dover in the head when the unlicensed gun went off during cleaning.
The young man explained to the police on last Friday night that he and Colletta (Shonette Dover’s younger sister) decided to bury the body of Dover in the backyard as they did not want the family to endure the pain of knowing she was dead.
Alleyne stated that they both came up with a story that Dover left for work and did not return home. He said he later sold the gun to a man in Linden and fled to Suriname where he later learnt that Dover’s sister was arrested and charged in connection with the murder.
He was arrested last week by Surinamese Police and later handed over to local Police.
